Year 1's Theme for Science Week 2021 was PAPER
First we found out how paper was made.
We thought about which is the odd one out….
Then we investigated which shapes are the strongest shapes for making towers.
We made 3 towers – a square shaped tower (a cuboid), a triangle shaped tower (a triangular prism) and a circle shaped tower (a cylinder). We tested each tower to see which was the strongest. What do you think?
We found out a tower made into a circle (a cylinder) was the strongest tower. Stronger than the triangle (a triangular prism) and the square (a cuboid).
Below are some of the tallest tower around the world.
We had a competition to build the tallest free standing tower out of newspaper and sticky tape.
Our towers had to stand up by themselves – no hands!! – these two didn’t count. Look carefully you will see the hands.
1 Monkeys’ tallest tower
Well done Anaya, Julia and Muhammad - excellent!!
We listened to a story call Paper Planes
We finally had great fun making paper planes and flew them in the garden.
You could investigate at home how to make your plan fly further. Have fun!
Character Education - Year 1 have being learning about Compassion, Gratitude, Resilience, Being Virtuous and Volunteering. Here is some of our work from 1 Monkey.
Have a look at some of the wonderful work that Year 1 have been doing in their online lessons, from writing fairy tales in English to creating flags as part of Geography.
See if you can spot your work!
