The Early Years at Ryvers

"Principles of cooperation and respect permeate the whole school and underpin the respectful, happy and productive atmosphere" OFSTED 2016

Children develop quickly in the early years and we want to give our children the best experiences on their learning journey. Every child is unique and is constantly learning. As practitioners we understand each child’s development by observing, assessing their progress and then planning for their next steps.

"Well planned teaching helps children in Nursery and Reception to take rapid progress in personal skills and academic learning". OFSTED 2012

We encourage the children to be independent by providing a warm, safe environment which fosters a sense of belonging to the Ryvers community.  We provide an enabling environment with varied and challenging experiences which provide rich learning opportunities through play and teaching.

“Good curricular planning in the Early Years Foundation Stage ensures that children’s knowledge of sounds and letters improves rapidly through regular practice and exciting tasks.” OFSTED 2012

The early years lay a firm foundation for future learning with a curriculum encompassing: music and movement; PE, French, Forest School, library visits and school trips. These activities enhance a child’s experience as they work through the EYFS towards the Early Learning Goals, at the end of Reception.

"You introduced higher expectations of pupils’ behaviour, strengthened leadership and revised the curriculum to prepare pupils more effectively for their next steps" OFSTED 2016

Our skilled staff nurture our children through these crucial years, supporting children and working with parents. This ensures and enables continuity of the curriculum through these early and vital years of a child’s learning.

“Leaders and managers have rigorously reviewed and enriched the curriculum. It now provides imaginative and creative opportunities for learning and to promote pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.” OFSTED 2012

The Early Years team work closely together to ensure the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage framework are being met as well as supporting children’s development, learning and welfare across the phase.
